MaRcH MaDnEsS!

Happy MARCH! Can you believe it's March already? This year is flying by and I'm trying desperately to keep up with my writing goals. I did end up making my February New Novel word count goal, which I'm quite pleased about, but only started a short story so I'll have to finish that this week. But I do have plans for this month. Writing goal plans. Plans that I shall call:

MaRcH MaDnEsS!

I've been talking about MaRcH MaDnEsS (can't type that out without the alternating caps) with a friend of mine who is joining me. Basically, I'm giving myself a crazy (well...not SO crazy) goal for the month...hence the MaDnEsS! The goal is to really push myself and what I think I can do, and add a nice chunk of word count to the New Novel. But it is NOT meant to make me feel like a failure if it ends up being too much for me. My minimum goal is to write 15,000 words this month, just like my past monthly goals, but I'm going to strive for my MaRcH MaDnEsS goal really, really hard.

Here's a little list I made for myself, which I'll be filling in every weekday (and possibly adding some lines for weekends if I feel like doing more or if I need to catch up from the week):

It's going to be awesome, guys! I'm really excited for a productive month, even though it's going to be super hard sometimes.

Is anyone with me?

Let the MaRcH MaDnEsS begin!

  1. that's awesome. I might do it with you :)

I just started a new novel that I'm really excited about, and if i can keep the momentum going, it won't take me a year to finish it like my other WIP (which is only about 2/3 done)

  2. Congrats on making your novel count goal for February. I am not doing a word count goal but I want to get my own work in query mode by the end of the month, if not sooner.

  3. Hi, Amanda! I'm here from Cristina's blog. I love this March Madness idea!! And I have to say the word count list you made is AWESOME. Lists are the best!

    Good luck with your goal!!!

    1. Hi, Laura! I did March Madness last year too, just by myself, and it really helped with my productivity. And YES--lists are the best! I have almost as much fun making them as I do checking them off :)

  4. This is a brilliant idea! Unfortunately I'm a feast for famine kind of writer. I might writer 15,000 words in two days and then not write for three.

I wish I could be more consistent :)

    1. 15,000 words in two days?! Holy mackerel, I wish I could do that! Guess that's why I need the monthly goals :D

  5. Woohoo, Amanda! Look at you go, lady!!! I'll bet that chart will give you BIG motivation to add to the word count - what a bummer if you don't fill in one (or more!) of those blanks. Way to go.

My goal for March is 40K...NO idea if that'll happen. But a girl can dream, right?

    1. Oh yes, I can't wait to fill in that chart! Wow, 40K in one month! You can totally do it! My goal is 30K this month, which is double what I usually set for myself, so we'll see :)

  6. That's a great goal! And totally manageable. A lot better than my rewrite a chapter a day this week (my brain will be mush by Saturday, I promise you). Best of luck reaching your goals! :)
